Valencia Road:
Mission Road to I-19
Improvement Project
PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT
The improvements proposed for this project consist of upgrading Valencia Road from Mission Road to Interstate 19 to a six-lane roadway with curb, gutter, additional traffic signals
at Headley Rd. and Oak Tree Dr. and landscaping. Pedestrian access along and across the alignment will be enhanced. Where possible, the existing median will be maintained.
Drainage improvements will include culverts to convey storm runoff off the roadway. The improvements will be consistent with the widened Valencia Rd. / I-19 intersection and the City of Tucson 's standard six-lane arterial cross section.
Construction is scheduled to begin in September of 2006 and is expected to take 12 months
PROPOSED PUBLIC ART
The theme for the artwork, created by Navarette Studio, is
based on the cultural background of the surrounding area. The Valencia
area is a large prehistoric site and is the only site in the Tucson Basin
to yield remains from all three major cultural periods: Paleoindian,
Archaic, and Hohokam. Proposed artwork will reflect this unique cultural
history.
