Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE THE PROJECT GOALS?

The ultimate goal for the River Bend Roadway projects is to improve roadways so that traffic and safety needs are met to handle the projected demands of the year 2025. The roadway design minimizes environmental impacts to the area and is sensitive to the history of the River Bend area.

WHERE ARE THE SIGNALIZED INTERSECTIONS GOING TO BE?

Heading eastward from the intersection of River Road and Campbell Avenue, a signal will be placed at River Road and Hacienda del Sol. Signal lights will also be placed at the new intersections that are created by the joining of River Road and Alvernon Way and the new intersection of Alvernon Way and Dodge Boulevard. The Alvernon Way and Dodge Boulevard intersection will be slightly south of the existing Dodge Boulevard and River Road intersection, allowing good exiting onto Dodge Boulevard from the realigned Alvernon-River roadway.

WILL THE DODGE BOULEVARD BRIDGE BE CLOSED BECAUSE OF THIS PROJECT EITHER DURING CONSTRUCTION OR PERMANENTLY?

The existing bridge on Dodge Boulevard will not be closed or affected by the construction in the area. It will remain in place, open and continue to provide local access to Dodge Boulevard businesses and the residences in the area.

HOW DOES THE NEW ALIGNMENT IMPROVE EXISTING CONDITIONS?

The new alignment at River Road and Alvernon Way improves existing conditions by improving safety and movement, creating a continuous through route connecting central Tucson with the northwest metropolitan area. This connectivity will encourage greater access to services, shopping and employment between the two metropolitan regions.
