This letter is to update you on the current status of the Craycroft Road Improvement Project, which will widen Craycroft Road from approximately 1100 feet south of River Road to approximately 900 feet north of Sunrise Drive. As was stated in the January 2004 Public Open House, the project as initially conceived was over budget and Pima County was studying several cost reducing, alternative concepts. The decision has been made to retain the four-lane, divided roadway section with several cost saving changes being made to the initial design scheme. These changes include re-using the existing roadway as the base for the new northbound lanes, deleting curbs (except in the median areas at the signalized intersections), and the deletion of an underground storm drain system.
The total project cost is currently estimated to be approximately $5M over the original 1997 Bond programmed amount of $12M. Additional funding is now being sought so that the planned construction start of early 2006 can be met; however, this additional funding is not in place at this time.
The Craycroft Team will be proceeding with the project design in anticipation of the 2006 planned construction start date. Our team is very interested in talking to all of our neighbors (residents, businesses, homeowner associations), and other stakeholders or interested parties regarding project concerns or issues. This can be done in either group or one-on-one meetings, or via telephone and/or e-mails if a meeting is not needed. Our goal is to meet and/or talk with as many of you as possible in the upcoming months. Your thoughts and concerns are important to us and do play a role in the decision making process. You are also encouraged to speak with your Community Advisory Committee (CAC) representative or other committee members and let them know your opinions regarding this upcoming project. For your convenience a list of the CAC members and has been enclosed with this letter.
We are planning the next Community Advisory Committee meeting for Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the First Evangelical Free Church (4700 N. Swan Road) at 6:00PM. All are invited to attend; however, we do remind you that this is a committee-meeting format and intended for committee and design team interaction and exchange of information. There is typically a brief call to the audience period for questions and design team members are generally available before and after the meeting for questions as well.
