Project Status:
The Pima County Department of Transportation recently finalized plans, environmental documents and permits to improve La Cañada Drive from Ina Road to Calle Concordia and awarded the construction contract to KE&G Construction of Tucson, Arizona. The plans call for La Cañada Drive to be widened to four-lanes in order to: accommodate increased traffic demands in the area for the year 2030; to improve vehicular, pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian safety; and to provide a key north-south, all weather route for residents, commuters and emergency service providers in the Northwest.
Utility franchises are in the process of relocating their infrastructure within the project limits. KE&G will begin mobilizing equipment, materials, and personnel in late November 2009 with construction commencing shortly thereafter. A construction kick-off open house is tentative scheduled for early December 2009. The meeting information will be posted once the time and location are confirmed.
It is anticipated that construction will be require 22 months to complete.
