Country Club Road Improvement Project: Milber Street to 36th Street
PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT
The project scope consists of the reconstruction of Country Club Road from Milber Street to 36 th Street. The project limits also extend south with a taper section from Milber Street to near Pennsylvania Street. However, the full project limits extend from Milber Street to 36 th Street.
The project improvements include new pavement with 3 lanes north of Ajo Way and 5 lanes south of Ajo Way. Both roadway sections include paved shoulders. The project improvements also include a new storm drain system, cross drainage culverts where warranted, a new bridge at the Tucson Diversion Channel, sidewalks and landscaping.
Following are project highlights:
• Replace the existing substandard, structurally deficient bridge at the Tucson Diversion Channel. The existing bridge is structurally deficient and requires full replacement. Without this replacement, the operating load limit on the bridge would have to be lowered substantially and would cause disruption to existing truck traffic along Country Club Road.
• The project provides enhanced traffic operations through the use of a 3-lane roadway section north of Ajo Way to 36 th Street by providing a continuous left turn lane. Traffic operations south of Ajo Way will be enhanced though the use of a 5-lane roadway section by providing for 2 travel lanes in each direction and by providing a continuous left turn lane.
• The project also provides new pedestrian and bicycle amenities, which include new concrete sidewalks and paved shoulders in the proposed roadway sections that support the existing bike routes in the area.
• A proposed closure period of the bridge will occur for approximately 9 months.
• The overall project construction duration is expected to be approximately 14 to 15 months.
Project Schedule:
• The anticipated start of construction is Summer 2006.
• A proposed closure period of the bridge will occur for approximately 9 months.
• The overall project construction duration is expected to be approximately 14 to 15 months.
